Innovative Research.

Minnesota Value.

Global Relevance.

When NRRI innovates, waste taconite rock becomes valuable aggregate, regional wood species make higher value products, and biomass becomes a clean energy source.

These advances say something about our mission to deliver research solutions to balance economy, resources and environment for resilient communities. For more than three decades, we’ve helped create new uses for our natural resources, putting our research to work by creating businesses and jobs across the entire state of Minnesota.

Minnesota’s economy has made impressive gains through the prudent fiscal use of our talented pool of researchers. We work hand-in-hand with businesses and entrepreneurs to give them assistance and help them succeed.

NRRI doesn’t do research for the sake of research. Instead, we investigate real problems facing Minnesota’s resources, collaborating widely to find solutions. We’re a unique hybrid of professionals with skills ranging from business and industry acumen to environmental scientists.

Today, that work is in jeopardy. More funding is needed to keep the research going, to keep NRRI on the cutting edge. We want to invest in our people and keep the brightest research talent here, doing more work for Minnesotans - work that has made a difference.

To achieve the goals set for us by the State Legislature, we are requesting an increase in special state funding to in 2017 to keep pace with inflation.

With the state's support NRRI can pay forward many times over in the continued use and protection of Minnesota's natural resources.
