Brett Spigarelli, Metallurgical Engineer at the NRRI Coleraine labs, received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. The focus of his Ph.D. was on carbon dioxide capture and storage at ambient conditions using waste materials. After graduation, he went to work at Mesabi Nugget on the ITmk3 alternate ironmaking technology as the Process Development Engineer.  He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the process along with leading bench and commercial scale R&D projects.  
 
After Mesabi Nugget, Brett went to work at the Steel Dynamics, Inc. Specialty Bar steel mill in Pittsboro, Indiana. In Pittsboro, he served as the Process Engineer for the electric arc furnace (EAF). He oversaw the day-to-day operations and process improvements of the EAF.
