Bio

Basak joined NRRI as Minerals Coordinator in 2013. Previously, she worked for U.S. Steel Corporation in their Research and Technology Center as a Research Project Engineer. Her expertise includes (i) iron ore processing, with an emphasis in pyrometallurgy, pelletizing, (ii) ironmaking technologies, with an emphasis in alternative ironmaking technologies, direct reduction and smelting technologies, and (iii) fundamental kinetic and thermodynamic aspects of metal oxide reduction, slag-metal interactions. 

She has worked in various industries at various capacities including (but not limited to) education, quality assurance and control, cement manufacture, iron making, steel making, and research and development. 

The projects in which she participates include, process and/or product optimization and improvement, beneficiation planning, development of new processes, and product testing. Her research interests and expertise include (i) kinetics and thermodynamics of chemical metallurgy, (ii) high-temperature processing and experimental techniques, (iii) slag- metal interactions, and (v) reduction and smelting technologies.
