Lake Depth Mapping in Northern Alaska
Last updated on November 7, 2002

The Arctic Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) area is located in the northern foothills of the Brooks
mountain range of northern Alaska (68.5oN, 149oW).  As an LTER site many groups from around the world have
ongoing research projects here.  In support of some of the aquatic research projects detailed depth maps were
created for a dozen small lakes in the area.

Researchers are based at the University of Alaska's Toolik Field Station located on the southeast shore of Toolik
Lake.  The twelve lakes for which detailed depth maps  were created are scattered within about a 20 km radius of
Toolik.  Some of the closer lakes to the Toolik Field Station are shown on the aerial photo above.
