These virtual images of the Toolik Lake
area of Alaska were produced using Vista-Pro software and a DEM created using
interferometric SAR (INSAR) data obtained from the Alaskan SAR Facility (ASF).
First, SAR data were
collected with the European Space Agency’s Earth Remote Sensing satellites
(ERS-1 and ERS-2). A tandem mission in the 90’s operated ERS-1 and ERS-2 in a
one-day trailing orbit allowing interferometric radar coverage of the Toolik
region. These INSAR data are noted for producing high accuracy DEMs.
Using these INSAR data and ASF software, we produced a 20 meter DEM of
the area. Next, six U2 CIR aerial
photographs from 6 August 1982 were rectified to UTM coordinates and mosaiced to
produce a single seamless CIR image of the Toolik Lake area.
Vista-Pro software was then used to produce a virtual flyby of the area
using solar ephemeris parameters that matched those of the U2 mission.
