Diseases and Parasites

The Wildlife Health Program of the Minnesota DNR began a screening process to evaluate moose moose in Minnesota. Brainworm is only one of many diseases moose are susceptible too. The number of diseases and parasites that moose in Minnesota have been exposed to is amazing. Some of the diseases and parasites are known well enough to earn their own page, others are described below. In the Further Reading section below are two reports from the MN DNR on diseases and parasites in moose.

Brainworm (Parelaphostrongylus tenuis)
Winter ticks (Demacentor albipictus)
Liver flukes (Fascioloides magna)
