What is Happening to Moose in Northeastern Minnesota?

A VHF telemetry study showed higher than expected mortality of adults. At the same time people have been reporting seeing fewer moose and hunter success has been declining. Yet the aerial survey indicated that there was little change in the moose population of northeast Minnesota until 2012, when the point estimate of the moose population declined (although confidence intervals overlapped estimates for prior years). The moose population has continued to decline through the 2013 survey. Read 2013 Moose Aerial Survey report here. (336 KB PDF)
