Planning Tools: CART

  • We use a variety of modeling techniques to relate habitat characteristics to bird abundance and distribution including an alternative modeling technique called classification and regression trees (CART).
  • We used CART to predict breeding bird occurrence and distribution across the Western Great Lakes region.
  • This project was accomplished in collaboration with Bob Howe from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay with funding from the Great Lakes National Program Office.
  • Results from this work can be obtained from the web site dedicated to this project: Bird Conservation, Western Great Lakes Basin.
