Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Hare Pellet Plots and Cover Type

Nick McCann obtained his M.S. on snowshoe hare in 2007. His thesis and publications are listed on the publications page. Hare pellet plots and cover type use by snowshoe hare are both discussed in the Annual Reports.

The highest density of snowshoe hare appears to be in regenerating forest that has a conifer component to the understory, and in the Upland Conifer cover type.  Hare pellet densities are lower in Minnesota than in areas in Ontario where we have radiotelemetry locations of lynx radiocollared in Minnesota. This is discussed in the Phase 1 Final Report.
