Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Lynx #36 (formerly Kitten #4) weighed about 12 pounds when he was captured near Isabella, MN on April, 2005. We originally thought that L36 was a 2004 kitten of L14, the Isabella female, but it turns out that L14 was not his mother—there was another unknown female in the Isabella area!

L36 spent time in the Isabella area after capture, then he moved west towards Babbit, and ended up near the Ely airport in the winter of 2006.  In March 2006 he moved back towards Isabella.  He was recaptured in April 2006 and his kitten collar was replaced with a larger VHF collar.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished.
