Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Lynx #34 was captured near Brimson , MN on March 23, 2005, not too far from where L13 had been spending time over the past year. A 22 pound male, L34 was fitted with a VHF collar and released.

L34 was not located over the summer of 2006 in the Brimson area.  His collar was detected giving a mortality signal in March 2006 in Ontario.  Indications are that he was probably killed illegally in Ontario, because the collar was removed by humans.  However, because the carcass was not recovered we really cannot identify the cause of death with certainty.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished.
