Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Lynx #33 was captured west of Babbit, MN on March 19 , 2005, not too far from where L26 had been captured over two months earlier. A 24 pound male, L33 was fitted with a VHF collar and released.

L33 was unusual in that one of his front paws had been caught in a leg hold trap.  The bone stubs had healed over so that he was able to walk, but he did not have claws on the foot that had been caught in a trap.

L33 was not located over the summer of 2006, but has since been located in Ontario.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished.
