Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Lynx #24 was captured south of Harris Lake on October 2, 2004, about 500 yards from where Lynx #12 was recaptured on September 30, 2004. Lynx #24 was a 19 pound female was fitted with a Lotek GPS radiotelemetry collar and released.

Lynx 24's VHF signal was in mortality mode on February 3, 2005. It is probable that L24 was killed by a fisher, as has been documented in the lynx research project in the state of Maine. Analysis of the activity and location data on the collar suggests that L24 died the evening of January 29, as detailed in the Mortality site description.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished.
