Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

L2 was captured south of Isabella, Minnesota on 3/14/03.  L2 was a male that weighed 25.5 pounds when he was originally captured in March 2003. L2 was one of the first lynx in Minnesota to wear a GPS collar.  His movements were generally around the Isabella area.  The farthest apart that locations have been is 16 km in the East-West direction and 8.5 km in the North-South direction.

The middle 2 pictures show L2 when a Telemetry Solutions (now Televilt) GPS collar was put on him.  The bottom 2 pictures show L2’s body, he was hit by a car in April 2005 near Isabella.  We were fortunate to recover his body within 24 hours of death.

Locations of L2 obtained from the ground and the air.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished.

The above images are of the body of L2, which was hit by a car.
