Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Lynx #13 was captured south of Brimson, MN on March 24th, 2004. This 23 pound female was fitted with a GPS radiotelemetry collar and released.

In early May she had kittens, and in June the den was visited

The collar drop-off mechanism released the collar in late June, and she was recollared on July 7, 2004. One of the pictures (below) shows the GPS collar where it was dropped off in a moss-covered black spruce area, and another shows L13 walking away from a trap wearing her new VHF collar.

In 2005, L13 again had kittens. L13 spent at least some of the 2005 summer about 5 miles east of her den sites, and in late summer was located 5 to 10 miles south of her den sites areas.

At this time L13 is wearing a GPS collar that has stopped transmitting the locating signal.  We continue to search for her, but would greatly appreciate receiving any information on possible sightings of lynx with a radiocollar in the Brimson / Pequayan Lake areas.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished.
