Canada Lynx in the Great Lakes Region

Lynx #12 was captured west of Isabella, MN around Birch Lake Reservoir on February 24, 2004. This 26 pound male was fitted with a Lotek GPS radiotelemetry collar and released.

Shortly after capture L12 moved north into Ontario. The project does not have resources to fly that far to locate animals so only GPS locations were taken on L12 in the summer. L12 returned to near his capture site and was recaptured on September 30, 2004.  He was fitted with a VHF radiocollar which he is currently wearing.  He continues to move around the area indicated by the dots on the map.

Study animals are anaesthetized in many of the images on this site. They regain consciousness and leave the capture site shortly after processing is finished. The last two pictures show L12 in Sepember, 2004, feeding on meat and then revisiting a trap about a week after he was recaptured.
