The Land Cover/Use dataset is provided as two different zipped files.

The luse.zip file is a zipped version of the Grid export file which may not import correctly on some slower PC's when using the Import71 utility from ArcView. 

The lsluse.zip file is a zipped version of the Grid itself.

You can also download the landuse for individual counties in MI, MN, WI, as well as Canada.
