The Third Indo-US Workshop on Mathematical Chemistry will bring together leading scientists and educators in the field of Mathematical and Computational Chemistry as well as related disciplines. The latest research in this multidisciplinary area will be presented along with important applications of mathematical and computational chemistry in drug discovery, environmental toxicology, quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR), quantitative molecular similarity analysis (QMSA), chemoinformatics and bioinformatics.

The biennial Indo-US Workshop series was initiated in 1998 jointly by Dr. Subhash C. Basak (Natural Resources Research Institute, University of Minnesota Duluth, USA) and Professor Dilip K. Sinha (Vice Chancellor, Visva Bharati University, India). This is an interdisciplinary and integrative forum for the in-depth discussion of emerging issues related to the application of mathematical concepts in chemical and biological sciences, drug design, environmental sciences, toxicology, molecular biology, genomics, etc. The major objectives of the workshop series are:

  1. to review the progress in the field of mathematical chemistry and related areas, and
  2. to nurture young students and scholars so that they can become productive scientists in the field.

Call for Presentations

The workshop program will include keynote speakers as well as oral and poster presentations. You are invited to submit a proposal for an oral or poster presentation that shares your original research. Only scholarly, well-documented presentations will be accepted.

Presentation Options

Oral Presentations
Presentations will be 25 minutes in length, including 5 minutes for questions. During your presentation, the use of 2 inch x 2 inch, 35mm slides, prepared overhead transparencies, or Microsoft PowerPoint presentations are preferred. Other media-assisted presentations are acceptable; however, presenters must provide and set-up all additional equipment. Internet access will not be available.

Poster Presentations
Poster boards 46 inches high x 70 inches wide will be provided for poster presentations. Presenters are required to attend their poster during a scheduled poster session.

Preparing the Abstract
The following instructions must be followed when preparing your abstract for submission (see sample abstract).

  • All proposals must be in English.
  • The title should be in lower case letters except for proper names and the beginning word of the title.
  • Include the author's name, institution and complete address. For multiple authors, separate authors' names and addresses with a semicolon. If multiple authors are from the same institution, separate names by a comma. Underline the name of the author who is giving the presentation.
  • Skip a line before beginning the abstract text.
  • Single space text with a double space between paragraphs.
  • The proposal body is limited to 400 words (one page).
  • Use a flush left (no indent) margin.
  • Use Times New Roman and font size 10 point. All scientific names should be italicized.

Abstract Deadline Extended!
To be considered for inclusion in the program, abstract proposals must be submitted via email or postmarked on or before May 21, 2003.

Abstract Review
All abstract proposals will be reviewed carefully for content, clarity and conformity to size and format instructions. Those not adhering to these standards risk rejection of their abstract. The review committee reserves the right to substitute requests for oral presentations to poster presentations due to time constraints. Presenters will be notified by letter or email by May 19, 2003 regarding the status of their proposal for presentation at the conference. All presenters are expected to pay the full registration fee to the workshop.

Book of Abstracts
All registered participants will receive a copy of the book of abstracts at the beginning of the workshop. Additional copies of the book of abstracts will be available for purchase following the conclusion of the workshop.

Full papers presented at the workshop will be published in a peer-reviewed, international journal. More details will be made available on the conference website.

Methods for Abstract Submission

Email Submission
Follow the instructions for preparing your abstract. It is preferred that you send your abstract as an email attachment, however if necessary the abstract can be included in the body of the email. If you are sending your abstract in the body of your email, be sure to clearly label any special characters, or super- or subscripted text. Attached files should be created in Microsoft Word, written for either DOS or Mac. If you use any other word processing program, save your abstract as a rich-text file (.rtf) and send the rich-text version by email. Be sure to include ALL of the information requested on the Cover Sheet listed below. Send abstract and required information to: indo-us3@nrri.umn.edu

Mail Submission
If email access is not available, you may submit your abstract on diskette by mail. Follow the instructions for preparing your abstract. Submit your abstract on a 3.5 inch diskette. The diskette may be formatted for either DOS or Mac and the abstract file should be created in Microsoft Word or be saved in rich-text file format. Include ALL of the information requested on the Cover Sheet listed below and include a hard copy of the abstract file. To have receipt of your proposal acknowledged, provide an email address or enclose a self-addressed postcard. Send diskette, Cover Sheet, and hard copy to the address listed below. If mailing your abstract, please allow sufficient time for delivery. If your abstract arrives too late it will not be included in the book of abstracts and there may not be space available for your presentation.
