We know that amphibians are sensitive to a wide range of environmental conditions. We are investigating whether frogs can be used as indicators of wetland ecosystem conditions, including potential factors that may cause malformations. We have an idea of the malformation rate in the Midwest and in the Prairie Pothole Region. We also know that UV radiation is strong enough in the upper portions of the water column to damage developing frogs.
