As part of NRRI’s effort to foster the development of Minnesota’s vast peat resources, NRRI was instrumental in the formation of the Minnesota Peat Association in 1986. The Association is composed of peat producers, equipment suppliers, state and federal regulatory agencies, environmental groups and university researchers. As their mission states: “The Minnesota Peat Association is committed to sound management of Minnesota’s peatlands, expansion of market share, and support of research and development of peat products and technologies.” The Association's “Birth of a Bog” is an enduring brochure that illustrates and discusses the natural setting of peatlands, peat types and peat products (Link to pdf of Birth of a Bog).
