Project Summary

Coastal GIS is an effort to assemble spatial data and develop decision support tools for the aquatic and terrestrial resources within Minnesota's Lake Superior Coastal zone. These data and tools will be delivered to end users via the Internet, CD-ROMs and institutional outreach efforts.

The Coastal GIS project has three specific objectives:

  • to develop synoptic databases within the coastal boundary
  • to make these data available through the Internet, CD-ROMs, and other data distribution formats
  • to develop decision support tools to assist local units of government in water resource planning activities.

This work will build on an existing effort to deliver data and decision support tools for the Lake Superior Basin, the Lake Superior Decision Support Project.
